Interactive Design (Student Programme)
Course and Workshop | 8 hours

Subject: Design
The course aims to provide basic knowledge of the theoretical and practical contents of Interaction Design, namely the design of the interaction between humans/machines/networks. The course aims to use strategies and methods of Human Centered Design and Experience Driven Design to develop plausible scenarios and innovative product/service systems, as well as their interaction with humans and the environment. The focus of the course is to develop a project – from the product concept through to its presentation – designing high-tech products, services and interfaces in the domestic environment. The activities include lectures, exercises and workshops.

Innovation in Materials and Finishes (Student Programme)
Course and Workshop | 16 hours

Subject: Design
The course deals with the main classes of materials (metals, polymers, ceramics, composites and natural materials) and the main finishing techniques (metallic coatings, paints, conversion layers, vapor deposition, etc). Particular attention is paid to the most innovative materials and finishes for the Design field. During the course several seminars will be organized, in collaboration with companies working in the Product Design field. The primary aim of the seminars is to investigate how innovation necessitates new materials, new finishes and new technologies.

Interior Design (Student Programme)

Subject: Architectural Design
The course is structured into a series of lectures complemented by some practical experiments. The course aims to provide students with a critical understanding of the main elements of the architectural project broken down in relation to the identity of the Italian landscape and its original characteristics.
The main topics will cover the following themes: Place, Time, Land, Light, Silence.
The landscape and the Italian city will form the backdrop for the identification and interpretation of these elements.

Urban Green System Design (Student Programme)
Course and Workshop | 24 hours

Subject: Architectural Design and Landscape Design
The course provides basic tools for analyzing and planning green spaces in urban areas by examining the most well-known European attempts. The course is delivered through lectures and a workshop where students can gain experience of working methods in planning design and management of an urban park.

Art History: The Renaissance (Student Programme)

Subject: History of Art
The course will offer a multidisciplinary overview of the Florentine arts from the 14th to the 16th century. Through the lens of masterpieces by the great masters, it will address the historical, social and economic context of the city. In addition to classroom activities, the course includes several visits to museums and monuments to experience art in its original context and a set of practice exercises (in the classroom and in the field) to enhance the students’ ability to comprehend and analyze Renaissance culture.

Modern European and Italian Art (Student Programme)
Course and Visits | 36 hours

Subject: History of Art
The course explores the European artistic movements from Realism and Impressionism to the Avant-Gardes of the early 20th Century including Expressionism, Cubism, Italian Futurism, Abstractionism and Surrealism. In addition to giving the historic background of each artistic movement, the course places particular emphasis on the three cornerstones of the Avant-Garde at the start of the century: primitivism, spiritualism and the redefinition of naturalism in painting and sculpture. Particular attention is paid to some artists, including Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Umberto Boccioni, Vassily Kandinsky and Salvador Dalì, who are examined in the context of literature, politics, aesthetic theory and the art market.

Italian Language (Student Programme)
Course and Visits | 24 hours

Subject: Italian Language
The course, held by Italian teachers who can speak Chinese, focuses on studying the fundamentals of the Italian language in order to provide basic knowledge and some useful expressions to express primary needs. The lessons focus mainly on developing students' communication skills. City outings are also planned to allow students to practice what they have learned in class.

Mentoring Activities

Short courses on specific disciplinary areas: Italian design, landscape and culture, the purpose of which is to make the fundamental aspects of Italian culture – with its historical, geographic and cultural roots – accessible to a non-Western audience.

Subject: Design
The seminar aims to present the main stages of Italian design development, focusing on the relationship with companies and the production system, and the ability to innovate forms and technologies. Special attention is paid to the design of the past two decades.
Visits to the Museum of Design and the Salone del Mobile in Milan are planned.

Landscape Design (Faculty Visiting Programme)

Subject: Landscape Design
The series of lessons aims to provide a summary framework of contemporary Italian landscape architecture, discussed with regard to its cultural and technical references and considered in relation to the wider panorama of European landscape design. The lessons, also including visits and involving designers and operators, focus on some prominent professional figures and the analysis of a series of significant projects.

Sino-Italian Culture (Faculty Visiting Programme)

Subject: Italian Culture
The course aims to provide Chinese teachers with some basic knowledge of the history of Florence considering the fact that the city represents a privileged observatory of the history of Italy. The course is divided into five sections: 1) Florence and the Renaissance: the development of art and the social, economic and political background; 2) Florence’s Craft and Trade Guilds; 3) The Medici Family; 4) Florentine charitable institutions from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance; 5) The Lorena Family and the reforms of the Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo. The topics of the course are presented by comparing them with corresponding aspects of Chinese history and culture.
