Field of study: History and criticism of cinema

Chiara Tognolotti obtained a degree in Literature from the University of Florence in 1997, with a thesis on the history and criticism of cinema, and thereafter a PhD in History of Entertainment - History of Cinema curriculum (2003). Since 2003-2004 she has taught History of Cinema at various Italian universities (University of Florence, Perugia, Pisa) and foreign academic institutions (Sarah Lawrence College in Florence; Middlebury College in Florence). Her area of interest ranges from the history of silent cinema and animation to the history of Italian cinema after the Second World War. Her publications include: Al cuore dell'immagine: l'idea di fotogenia nel cinema europeo degli anni Venti, Palermo, Edizioni della Battaglia, 2005; L'immagine opaca: il cinema di Max Ophuls, Perugia, Morlacchi, 2012.
